Shortened basketball season at endPosted Friday, February 13, 2009, at 1:53 PM
Piggott's Rob Rice putting up a shot against Corning earlier this season. Rice has a chance to eclipse the 1,000 point mark for his high school career tonight (Feb. 13) as the Mohawks host Manila.
The Mohawks are slated to host the Manila Lions, with only the senior boys in action. Pre-game festivities are set for 6 p.m. with the contest to follow. Tonight should also mark a milestone for Mohawk player Rob Rice, who needs just 18 points to surpass the 1,000 point mark for his high school career. Rice had 12 points in the loss to Harrisburg Monday night, and added another 19 in the win over Brookland on Thursday. If he doesn't hit the mark against the Lions (and it is very likely he will) he'll go for the mark in the district tournament at Tuckerman next week. The seedings for the tournament were to be decided Saturday, Feb. 14, with play set to begin the following Monday. The Tribe has the fifth seed and will likely draw a re-match with Manila in the first round. A win in the second round would insure a trip to the regional tournament at Bergman, and the likely second round opponents are the Rivercrest Colts. During the regular season the Mohawks split with the Colts in conference play. |
