Boys and girls of springPosted Friday, March 13, 2009, at 8:59 AM
The Mohawk dugout during their season opening blowout of the Ridgefield Christian Warriors at Independence Park.
After the long winter indoors the arrival of spring sports is always a harbinger of warmer weather and the approaching end of school. This season the Mohawks have put together a fairly young but well-seasoned squad under second year head coach Shawn Hearn. The Tribe also added an assistant coach in the off-season as Rector grad Alan Rabjohn joins the team. For the Lady Mohawks of coach Nikki Speer and assistant Melissa Williams they had a big turnout, and return some quality experience to the softball diamond. Today, Friday March 13, the Tribe was scheduled to host the Rector Cougars but that game has been called due to the bad weather. Tomorrow's JV tournament has also been called due to field conditions. Weather permitting the Mohawks will visit the Manila Lions Monday, March 16, will host the Marmaduke Greyhounds on Tuesday and will travel to Hoxie this coming Thursday, March 19. The Lady Mohawks are slated to visit Hoxie on Monday, March 16 and are then idle until the following Monday, March 23, when they're slated to visit Marmaduke. Both squads play their home games at Independence Park in Piggott, and with the exception of the Lady Mohawk game at Hoxie which starts at 4:30, all the games begin at 4 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to come out and support the Mohawk teams, there's no better place to spend the early spring than the ballpark. |
