PHS senior Rob Rice will represent the Mohawks in the Sun Senior Classic on Sunday, April 19 at Jonesboro High School.
As was reported recently in the Jonesboro Sun; PHS senior Rob Rice will take part in the annual Sun Senior Classic Sunday, April 19 at Jonesboro High School.

Rice, who eclipsed the 1,000 point mark for his high school career on senior night, will play on the white squad that is coached by Bay Yellowjacket head coach Brad Brannen.

It will also offer Rob, who has had long personel ties with Corning, a chance to team-up for once with Bobcats Zack Brown and Kyle Harvey. The contest also affords a re-match of sorts with Rector Cougar Justin Duke, who will lace them up for the blue squad (fitting) that's being coached by Frankie Gathen of the Osceola Seminoles.

The other members of Rice's squad includes two players from the class 5A state champion Golden Eagles of GCT, Lucas Nutt of Jonesboro High and players from Bay, Wynne and Valley View.

The day's activities will also include girls game, tipping off at 1:30 that afternoon with the boy's game to follow.

Coaching the girls white squad will be Greene County Tech coach Ted Cunningham, while current East Poinsett County coach, and former PHS coach, Bobby Lewallen leads the blue team.

On that squad will be another Rector product, as Lady Cougar Hillary Calhoun will take part in the contest.

According to the Sun, proceeds from the Sun Senior Classic, which is sponsored by Central Dealerships, go to the Newspapers in Education program; a non-profit effort that's dedicated to offering newspapers to schools for educational purposes.

Tickets will be available at the gate, and the doors will open at noon.

For fans of Mohawk basketball, or hoops fans in general, it should be a great opportunity to see some excellent talent..and see one of our own get yet another a chance to shine.
