Trick or Treat! It's Almost Time!Posted Monday, October 26, 2009, at 1:58 PM
Good morning, folks. I can't report on Rector's weather this morning as I am currently in Rison, AR visiting with Carol and Jim Stone. I do feel pretty safe in predicting that it is either raining, has been raining or is about to rain, however. Has this not been the wettest year we have had in years? We are all going to have webbed feet if this keeps up. It has really been good for the trees though and they did need some attention after the winter they had.
Like I said, I am visiting with the Stones and I am happy to report that Jim seems to be doing great this week. Even though he talks of flagging energy, he keeps flitting around here and there and is pretty much his old self. His ability to pick on me and defend himself against Carol and me does not seem to be the least bit endangered. I have got to brag on Rison just a little too. It is such a wonderful little town. There are so many trees everywhere and now with the leaves falling it looks like a picture post card, complete with deer grazing silently in the yards. Peaceful, lovely and definitely a healing place. I went to church with them on Sunday and heard Rev. Stone preach for the first time. It was a lovely experience. Their church is as warm and friendly and loving as ours is. No surprise there. Jim and Carol have been telling me that since the first day they moved to Rison. I think I may have to come back in a little while. I have not yet been able to convert him from his questionable political views so I may have to apply another round of therapy. Yes he and I do argue politics just a little bit and we surprise each other on the many things on which we agree. But not everything. Yet. Now let me back up a few days. Before I left for Rison, I was at a party at Georgia Sallee's I want to tell you about. You probably know that Paul and Cheryl Schwager are leaving our little town soon to return to CA. Georgia was gracious enough to hostess a going away party for them and it was great. Steven and Lark Sigsby were there of course, as was Steven's brother Kevin and his wife Pam from Utah. Ron and Nancy Kemp were there with Nancy's brother, Jack Partridge who was visiting from Arizona. It was practically a national event. Theresa Roofe, Candy Hill, Paula Benton, Lane Wozniak, Rob and Cathy Louder, Jessie Malin, Jerry Chilcut and I rounded out the guest list. And of course the guests of honor, Paul and Cheryl. We had a great time. Georgia is such a gracious hostess. We are really going to miss the Schwagers. They have been an asset to the community for as long as they have been here. Drop by and say good-by before they go if you get a chance. I understand there was another party for them on Saturday which I missed and I think maybe we will be celebrating right up to the day they leave. No, no, Paul and Cheryl, we are not celebrating your leaving, well not exactly. Pauline Shields was pleased to entertain her nephew Jeff Roberts and his wife Jan for a day and night as they passed through on their way to visit Jeff's sister. Jeff and Jan live in Searcy and Ms Pauline doesn't get to see them as often as she would like so she had a great time with them. Joey Pruett shared some more information with me about the upcoming show, "The Ultimate Oldies Show II" which is coming soon to the Collins Theatre in Paragould. Come relive the magic and memories of the good old days with music from the 50's and 60's. Mark your calendars for November 13 and 14. You may want to purchase your tickets in advance at the Lantern Bookstore in Paragould. Come on! It will be fun! Happy Halloween to everyone. Have a good time and be safe. I hope it isn't rainy on Halloween. I love to greet the trick or treaters. I am glad I live on 3rd Street. We get a lot of the little monsters and such and I just love it. I also love eating the left over candy and I do make sure I have some left over. Hmmm. Maybe I had better stop on the way home and shop for candy. Yes, I definitely think I will do that. Well, I guess I'd better go. I really would like to write about you next week, so give me a call or email me to let me know what is going on. My address is 514 West 3rd St. Phone: (870) 595-3173 and email: porchswing@newwavecomm.net. Thank you so much for all your emails and phone calls. I look forward to hearing from you. Don't forget to say a prayer for soldiers everywhere. Also support our Operation Dad Bags Program. |
