Enjoy AprilPosted Monday, April 12, 2010, at 12:48 PM
I have really been enjoying this weather, haven't you? Warm days, cool nights and so much color everywhere. Spring is really a special gift for us here in northeast Arkansas, a beautiful, special gift.
Of course there is the "other" thing about April. The day of reckoning, if you know what I mean. The dreaded Tax Deadline! Hark! It is upon us! Of course I am sure none of you waited until the last minute. You probably filed your taxes ages ago. Right? Or are you just now racing to the mail box? Last week I mentioned Gazaway and how helpful they have been. This prompted an email from one of my readers who suggested I also mention Cox in Piggott. They are another hardware store that offers some special services. This made me think of some of the other establishments here in town, that go that extra mile. You know what? That is just about all of them. Ally Auto, Napa, the drug store, the flower shops, Underwood Furniture, Harp's; each and every one of these have done something for me at some time or other that was more than just their normal service. Even the hair dressers have been known to pick up a client and bring them to the shop when necessary. And I can't forget the Postal Service. Let's all think about the little extra attentions we get when we shop here in town and maybe take a moment to say thank you. And another moment to use our local businesses. Sunday afternoon Georgia Sallee, Jessie Malin, Paula Benton, Lane Wozniak and I went to Pocahontas to the Imperial Dinner Theater to see "Sound of Music". It was a great performance. Lot's of singing, of course and the most beautiful backdrops. They served Wiener Schnitzel. M-m-m-m. It was a good meal a good play and of course we had a good time. Georgia always gets us a table right up front so we are almost part of the action. This time it was the Storm Troopers as they ran around (and almost over us) looking for the Von Trapp family. It's always exciting. The drive to and from Pocahontas was just a beautiful extra reward. I was very saddened to learn that Coleen (Ford) Grave passed away yesterday. She was another of my late mother's friends. I shall always remember her beautiful smile. You will be missed, Coleen, and remembered fondly. Ah, well, it is time to go. Thank you for your emails. I always love to hear from you. And I love to share your stories, so stay in touch. My address is 514 West 3rd St. Phone: (870) 595-3173 and email: porchswing@newwavecomm.net. I really love to hear from you all. God bless our soldiers. |
