Wind and Showers and Good News

Posted Monday, March 12, 2012, at 2:13 PM

Alright! Enough of this wind! You know I don't whine much about the rain or snow or even sleet. I am just fine in the middle of winter and even found ways to enjoy our big freeze two years ago. I do whine a bit about the heat, but it isn't that hot yet. The other weather thing I whine about is the wind. Well it whined at me first. It is whining at me now and has been whining most of the month so far. I know, I know. I should be grateful that we have only had winds and not tornadoes and floods. I will try to get it together and be more appreciative.

Good news! Pauline Graves Shields is back home at NHC after spending a few days in the hospital. And she is chomping at the bit to get back to having fun. Drop by and visit with her, if you have a chance. Her niece, Judy Jeffery drove down from St. Louis last week and spent an afternoon with her. They both really enjoyed that visit.

Other good news! My book is out! Check out the website for the latest on the book, "We Were Army Wives". It is: www.wewerearmywives.com. If you already ordered a book I will have them in hand this week and if you live in Rector or Piggott, I will bring it by. If you live elsewhere I will mail it to you as soon as I get them. Probably Thursday. There is also a facebook page. You guessed it. We Were Army Wives.

It has been good to see the farmers in the fields already. That is one of my favorite signs of spring along with the budding trees and flowers.

I don't know if you are aware that we have some more Rectorites who have moved back. Welcome, Marvin and Jane Gatewood. Glad to have you back in the fold.

If you are doing spring cleaning, you might want to bring some things to the First United Methodist Church for their rummage sale. The sale will be April 5 & 6, so get your items to the church basement by April 2. And thank you in advance for your support.

And even more good news. You probably know Erick Shavalia and Malorie Tippitt will be getting married soon. There will be a shower for them at the home of Betty Essman Sunday.

There will also be a baby shower for (Alice Holifield) Smith at the house of Ginger Sain April 29.

Check out the new facebook page for Genny's Kitchen. It is "Genny's Kitchen in Rector." You can keep up with the daily specials.

Oh, and there will be a gold party at Now & Then on Thursday from 11:30 -- 2:30. Gather up you old gold and silver and take it to the party.

Well time to go. Thanks to everyone who shared with us this week. Let me know what is going on with you. You can email me at: porchswing@newwavecomm.net or call me (870) 595-3173. You can even drop me a line at 514 West 3rd St., Rector AR. Bye for now. Stay safe and enjoy life.

Bless our military everywhere.
