Heat WavePosted Monday, July 9, 2012, at 12:41 PM
I am glad to see the temperature in the lower 80's for a change. Hasn't it been miserably hot here; well everywhere? What have you been doing to stay cool? I have pretty much been staying inside worshipping the air conditioning. I remember growing up without the benefits of the AC and somehow we got through it, heat and humidity and all. I was younger then, however and running through the sprinklers was an option I don't think I should exercise today. Mother Nature seems to be somewhat peeved at us lately. I am looking for ways to appease her. Any ideas?
Rector High School was well represented at the International Thespians Society's Educational Theatre Festival in Lincoln, NE last week. Lindsey Ford and Sydney Simmons made the trip with Gail Burns and performed beautifully as they competed with 3,000 ITS members from across the United States. They also talked with representatives from colleges across the nation and made a few new friends along the way. Good work, ladies. We are glad to have you representing Rector High School.
And how about those FBLA kids!! Lorene Carter, Ryan LaRue, and Justin Beck brought home a beautiful trophy from San Antonio. They earned 5th place in Entrepreneurship at the National Leadership Conference. Not too shabby folks. 5th in the nation. Congratulations to all of you. I think they enjoyed the sights of San Antonio as well. It is wonderful city, rich in history.
Glenna Bookout recently attended her granddaughter's graduation at Arkansas Tech University in Russelville. Jordan Brittany Wiedeman, daughter of Kendra and Jim Wiederman, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in creative writing. I hope to see her name in print before long.
Glenna also visited with Glenda Holifield Long in Beebe before returning home.
Vacation Bible School time is around the corner. The 5th and Pine Church of Christ will hold theirs on July 14, 9:00am -- 3:00 pm. All children are welcome.

Christa is proud to call herself a true Rector native. Although she was raised on the Texas Gulf Coast, she was born right here on Hickman St. As an adult she traveled and lived in several places before deciding it was time to come home in 1994. She has been active in the community and enjoys watching the world go by from her front porch.
