As October slides away we can enjoy relief from the punishing summer heat and savor the cool crisp mornings and the blazing sunsets against the background of fall foliage. It is time to reminisce about the challenges and gifts this year has brought us and prepare ourselves for the time of Thanksgiving. Cooler weather and shorter days seem to bring family and friends closer and make the evening hours cozy. Can you tell? Fall is a special time of year for me. I hope it is for you too.
That said, I have been locked in mortal battle with allergies this past week and not able to really appreciate all this splendor. With a growing pile of things I need to be doing, I have hit the wall several times and dropped a lot of balls. I had a book sale scheduled on Saturday at the Base Exchange at Little Rock Air Force Base and fortunately was feeling better for my ride down on Friday. I could not, however take my medication and drive so by the time I got there I was sick again. Better on Saturday morning, but sick in the evening. Sunday was a day of continual naps.
The book sale went well though and the staff at the exchange were awesome.
That cute birdhouse I was talking about last week, at Candy Hill's house is one of many. They are all around her yard and every single one is unique and cute as can be.
Mary Small was in Little Rock on Saturday too. She was taking a test to get her certification as a social worker in Arkansas. She has been working out of Poplar Bluff for quite some time now, but this will increase her opportunities closer to home. Good work Mary.
I hope I see you at the Holiday Fashion Show Thursday evening. The show is presented by Clay County Arts Council, Inc. at the Sugar Creek Country Club in Piggott. It promises to be an evening of elegance and opportunity. And food, of course. Merchants and businesses from Piggott and Rector will be showing their wares.
Also another reminder of the up-coming craft fair at the community center next month. If you want to reserve a table to display and sell your items contact the community center at: 870-595-3035.
Happy Halloween, everyone. I am preparing for tons and tons of trick or treaters. I can't wait to see the costumes.
Early voting is happening now. Get out there and mark your ballot. This is your time to speak.
