Cozy TimesPosted Monday, November 26, 2012, at 2:55 PM
It's Monday, it's raining and it is 45 degrees outside. Jack Frost is definitely a frequent visitor these days. Cozy is the word I am thinking about. Bundled up, hot drink in my hand and dogs at my feet and a heart full of gratitude. Now that is really cozy.
But now Thursday was another story. Early morning fog wrapped around us, dimming the colors of the world behind a gossamer veil. The afternoon was brisk with that deep, deep blue sky that looks like a movie set and sunshine galore. It was a beautiful day for traveling and a good day for gathering with friends and family and a great day for giving thanks.
I was honored to have as one of my guests on Thanksgiving a real, honest to goodness soldier. Billy Stone and his wife Elizabeth and their puppy, Bart were part of my holiday group. Billy's mother Carol Stone, Jessie Malin and Lane Wozniak rounded out the table. So glad to have them all here. Also so glad to be able to run around and share some of their holiday on Friday.
Thanks to Billy, I also got to meet Bo Gambling for the first time. Yes I know Bo is a legend in these parts and I have heard stories about him since I first moved here. Russ and my late husband, Dennis were best buddies and I have enjoyed knowing Sharon, Barbie and April, but Bo and I had never met. Good to meet you Bo. It is good to know you and your family were able to share Thanksgiving with the family here in Rector.
Lark and Steven Sigsby recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary with a trip to the Florida Keys. They spent 3 days in Key West where they visited the Hemingway House and enjoyed swapping stories with the guides about the Hemingway Museum in Piggott. They also visited the Southern White House of Harry Truman on the old naval base.
They enjoyed fresh seafood at every meal while taking in the local ambiance. Next stop was Key Largo and then the Ford Championship Weekend at Homestead Miami Speedway on the 16th, where they closed out the NASCAR racing season. All three races were exciting of course, and Sunday's race had Kid Rock for a pre-race concert. They were delighted that Brad Keselowski won the Sprint Cup Championship. Happy anniversary, Lark and Steven. I wish you many, many more.
Jessie Malin was gifted with a new puppy on Friday. Addie is half Maltese and half Yorkie (a Morkie, I believe) and is just the cutest little thing you have ever seen. The entire family had been hiding her for weeks. We all know they can really keep a secret. Steve and Mary Malin, Cathy, Rob and Meagan Louder, David Cohn, Keit, Heidi, Mason, Haydon and Cooper Cohn, Seth Cohn and Hailey and Dawson Henderson were all there to witness the new puppy's arrival. And also to have Thanksgiving Dinner.
Don't forget the Night of Chocolate on Saturday. It is going to be a night of mystery and fun. Call me if you need tickets. The Christmas parade is next Wednesday. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas now with the decorations up on Main Street and along 49. Oh, yes and Christmas music at Genny's Kitchen on Saturday evenings.
Oh, my. It is time to go. Please let me know what is happening with you. You can email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org or call me (870) 595-4997. You can even drop me a line at 514 West 3rd St., Rector AR 72461.
Bless our military and don't forget to bless the victims of hurricane Sandy who still have some healing to do.

Christa is proud to call herself a true Rector native. Although she was raised on the Texas Gulf Coast, she was born right here on Hickman St. As an adult she traveled and lived in several places before deciding it was time to come home in 1994. She has been active in the community and enjoys watching the world go by from her front porch.
