Hello, everyone! Summer is here. It is hot and heavy outside. A cotton farmers favorite weather, but not mine so much. But then I do like the cotton so it’s okay. All time I am whining about the heat and the humidity, I try to envision those cotton plants, languishing in the soupy heat, soaking up the sun in the daytime and stretching their leaves above the warm earth at night. It’s a bit like Christmas for me when I start seeing the fields turn white. Driving between the oceans of creamy cotton always brings a smile to my face. All those years I lived away from here, it was the cotton, I remembered with vivid accuracy. So hello, summer. Bring it on!
Many of you already know that Susie Bell was in a bad automobile accident recently. Susie is the daughter of our former FUMC Minister, Velda Bell. She suffered a broken back among other injuries and has been battling vigilantly to regain the use of her lower extremities. She is working hard and making progress and now she needs a little help. Susie is currently in rehab and insurance is running out. If you would like more information on Susie or would like to donate to her rehab costs, you can go to: https://www.facebook.com/donate/458183817873759/ . Velda will share her progress with us. Thank you for your help.
Tonight is the final Movie in the Park. Zootopia is the move, the kids will enjoy. It looks like the weather is going to cooperate too. No rain in the forecast. So bring the kiddoes to the Rector Downtown Park and enjoy the movie and the fun before-hand. Thank you to the terrific group of people who have made this possible for us. The movie is free. Proceeds from the concessions will go to grants for local businesses downtown. Go see the movie and meet the people who are working hard for downtown Rector.
Just off Main Street is a temporary business you might find interesting. The children of Joel and Christina Boyd have a yummy lemonade stand. You may want to try a glass. Check with Christina for when they expect to be open. We like to see those young entrepreneurs. https://www.facebook.com/christina.muniz.boyd .
