Good Day All! Another Monday has rolled around, taking us past the middle of July. You realize, of course that we are now on the down side of 2017, with more than half the year already spent. How close are you to having all those goals met for this year? Oh, never mind. It is the middle of summer vacation. How rude of me to bring that up. Now is the time for summer fun. Which should include a way to say cool, cause it is typical July weather now.
Sunday afternoon the Rector Community Center held a reception to honor Ms. Eva Mae Claridy for her years of working at the community center. Even though she is retiring we expect to be seeing her at many of the functions as a guest enjoying the entertainment.
I want to take a moment to congratulate Jacob Holmes. He was first chair trombone, at the Arkansas Tech University’s Jr. Band Camp this past weekend, and he was awarded the Outstanding Brass Musician Award for the week. Way to go, Jacob! Rector is proud of you. I also understand he is awesome in math too.
I was very sorry to hear that our Senior Wellness Center has closed its doors. Even though the attendance had declined in the past few years it provided a good place for our senior citizens to meet and share a meal each day and take part in other activities. The Meals on Wheels Program has been continued without interruption and for that we are grateful.
I made the very difficult decision to surrender the big dog who found his way to my house, to the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society last week. It was heart rending for me after looking for his real owner for three weeks and falling completely in love with him. I urge anyone who wants a good companion dog to contact the Humane Society about him. He is the sweetest dog I have ever had and extremely smart, an excellent companion dog for someone who needs a big, young, energetic pup.
