Did you watch the eclipse? Even with us not quite having the totality, it was fantastic to watch. As the sun and moon crossed paths, the tiny moon that belongs only to us, gradually encroached on the mighty sun that serves all the planets in our universe, until only a tiny sliver of the sun was visible. Then the sliver seemed to slide slowly up one side to the top and the sun slowly reclaimed its fullness.
I watched on television as it happened in Oregon and Idaho, where the eclipse was complete. The fantastic pictures, so much like others I have seen throughout the years, still thrilled me. It is a phenomenon that will continue to be seen in other places at other times and will always strike awe in the hearts and minds of any who get to see, even a small part of it.
Myth has it that the eclipse brings with it change. There are many different myths of different kinds of change. Most of them are unknown at the time of the eclipse, leaving us to watch and wonder about what will follow. What will tomorrow bring that you can attribute to the eclipse?
We are into full Labor Day mode here now. A week from Friday is the “Ultimate Oldies Show” at the Rector Community Center. Tickets are on sale at the Rector Water Department. Call Linda Robinson or Kim Romine at 870 595-3035 for tickets and information. This is a terrific show and always draws a good crown. General admission tickets are $15.00 and reserve seating is $20.00. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the show starts at 7:00.
The 5K run/walk will be September 2 and will benefit the Rector High School Helping Hands Foundation. Kim and David Romine and Heather Simmons will be hosting this event.
Also on Saturday is the Ice Cream Social at the Rector Downtown Park at 4:30. This is a laid back, family affair. The ice cream is free and the entertainment varied. Bring a chair or blanket if you want and show up to visit and let the kids run off some of that energy. The Rector Downtown Central Committee hosts this.
You can access the Rector Labor Day Picnic Facebook page as well for more information: https://www.facebook.com/groups/124099237732556/ . There will also be information on all the other events. I am still looking for information on the rodeo and all other Labor Day activities. Send me whatever you would like to see on the website and whatever you want me to include in this column. Get ready! Labor Day is almost here.
I suppose I had better end this and get it in. See you Labor Day!
