The last week of the year is ours now. How will we use it? What will we do? Many of us find it to be a time of reflection. We look back over the happenings of the past year and file them under good or not so good. But there is more to reflection. As we gaze into the mirror of the past, it is necessary for us to do more than identify the things we want to see repeated and to hold close. We also have to decide what we learned from the things that caused us pain and discomfort.
Year’s end is the perfect time to do this. We are ready to clean out our emotional closets, make some changes and install some new resolutions to make them happen. It is never a new world but it is never exactly the same as it was yesterday or last year. Every day has the potential of being a new beginning. And for me every new beginning begins with an honest assessment of what has worked and what has not.
As you look back this week, pay particular attention to the things that caused you discomfort, sadness, anger, pain or despair. What was your lesson in each uncomfortable situation? How will you shape your future self, using this lesson? What brought you joy, love and enlightenment? What will you do to continue to be the vessel that received those blessings?
Use this week wisely and use this week well, because this time next week, we will be starting out on a brand new shiny year. May 2018 be a year of love, peace, fortune and awareness. Happy New Year Everyone!
