Okay! Winter is done with us. We are in full blown summertime weather. Itís hot. The grass is growing like crazy and everyone is either planning their vacation or on vacation or talking about how great the beach was. For school age kids, summer means freedom. Itís all fun and games for a while. For the grownups, itís just more of the same, just a little warmer.
The big news this week is the Nuclear Summit with North Korea. This is history in the making already, with the potential to dramatically change the direction of world politics. Of course, every day is history making, it just isnít always evident what that history will be. Now we are looking at the possibility of beginning a peace process with a very volatile small country, a country that sits in close proximity to some of our very close friends. Itís a challenge and it is just beginning. Letís all cross our fingers and say our prayers and pay very close attention to what goes on. It may be something you can tell your grandchildren about someday. And hey! Dennis Rodman is there so Ö wellÖDennis Rodman is there.
There is more history being made in Little Rock this week. Miss Arkansas and Miss Arkansas Outstanding Teen will be chosen. Rectorís own Sophie Simmons is competing for Miss Arkansas Outstanding Teen. Letís all wish her the very best. She has been working toward this for a long time and I think she has all the right attributes. I will be pulling for Sophie to be our next Miss Arkansas Outstanding Teen. Rector is cheering you on.
I know I donít have to remind you of this, but please remember cars get hot inside in the summertime. Donít leave children or pets in hot cars. Not for a few minutes even. And if you have outside pets, be sure they have shade and lots of water.
A reminder that you can easily check to see if your voter registration is current on this website: www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote . Enter your name, address and birthdate and click on the ďCheck your registrationĒ button, and it will tell you immediately if your registration is valid or if it is not. I suggest we all do this.
