I could not believe it was so pleasant yesterday. An early morning temperature was 67 surprised me when I walked out the door. I opened the window for a good while. Sort of a good kind of July day. Now if we could just get a good rain before the cotton comes in.
July is slipping away, and August is about to begin. That means Labor Day is coming. Tee shirts will go on sale the first week in August. You can get yours at Centennial Bank, Rector Downtown Drug, Glen Sain Motors, Honeysuckle and Home and what ever is left will be sold at the picnic. See the FaceBook page Rector Labor Day Picnic for more information and a look at this year’s logo.
The FaceBook page also has information on Pageants. Jamie Simmons and Jade Mount Simpson are working for a record pageant turnout this year. Information on other activities will be available as they are announced. And the drawing has been increased this year to $2000.00. How many tickets are you going to purchase?
Also mark your calendars for Friday, August 31. The 7th Annual Ultimate Oldies Show will start at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15.00 and $20.00 for reserved seating. Contact Linda or Kim at the Rector Water Office, 870 595-3035 for tickets and information. Be sure to tell them if you are wanting tickets for a group of people to sit together. This is the best music from the Good Old Days you will hear. They always do something special for us. Come and enjoy the show.
Good news here. Janice Pruett is home where she belongs. Welcome back Janice. Keep getting better.
Neighbor 2 Neighbor, the annual cleanup/spruce-up for the town will be held August 18. See the article in the Clay County Times Democrat for further information. Anyone wanting to help, meet at the Memorial Park at 8:00 a.m.
Also the Red Cross will have a blood drive at the Rector Community Center, Monday August 13, from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. As always, blood is needed. Please consider giving if you can.
I want to repeat the warning of a scam that is circulating which involves some of the banks. The banks are reporting their customers are getting a message saying that there has been an attempted withdrawal from your card and giving a phone number to call. It may also give you a text address. DO NOT call the number listed or reply to the text. It is a good idea not to reply to any text from a person you don’t know and never install an app that does not come from an official app store. And of course, do not allow anyone into your computer you don’t know either. Once they gain access they can leave crumbs and steal your information. Be careful. Seems like there is a new scam out all the time.
Guess I will end this now. Stay cool and enjoy some summer fun. Let me know what is going on in your life and I will share it with everyone else. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org . Phone number (870) 595-4997. Check out your Rector, Arkansas website: www.rectorarkansas.com from time to time. I love to be told I need to update it and I take all suggestions to heart. Take a look.
Goodbye for now.
