We have our regularly scheduled cool down which comes each year a few days after Labor Day. I love getting up with temperatures in the 60’s. Rain or shine, these cooler temperatures are a welcome treat for me. It’s a good time to get out in the evening and take a drive.
Our Labor Day Picnic was a great success. As proceeds from the picnic go to the care and upkeep of the Woodland Heights Cemetery, we are always grateful for good weather and big crowds. We had both this year for the entire weekend, filled with festivities. Let me tell you, the Tuesday following Labor Day is the quietest day of the year in Rector. All the volunteers and participants are in recovery mode. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this Labor Day a success and our picnic the best Labor Day picnic in the country.
There are way too many winners of too many different events to list in this tiny column, but I do want to give a shout out to this year’s Miss Rector, Sawyer Hendrix. She is a worthy winner of the crown and will be a marvelous representative of Rector. I am glad to know she will wear the crown and the title. Congratulations, Sawyer.
And just so you know that she is not the only beauty we have in Rector Sarah Marie Robinson was crowned Miss Clay County on Saturday. Congratulations to you Sarah. Rector is proud of you.
School has started and so has School Football. Thursday the Junior High plays McCrory at home and Friday the High School team plays Piggott at Piggott. Come out and cheer these guys on.
For those of you who are interested in Hot Wheels, keep in mind that Rector has a new club you might be interested in. The NEA Hot Wheels Club meets at the community center on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 6:00 p.m. They are looking for new members, so drop in, if you are interested. There will be more information on this club at a later date. Stay tuned.
We are less than two months away from the mid-term elections. It is important that you make your selection for these seats. You must be registered a month before the election, so if you aren’t registered to vote it is time to get that done. If you want to be sure you are registered, you can check at: https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/ . Just enter the state and your name and birthday and it will tell you if you are still registered. You can vote at the polls on election day (November 6) or you can get a mail in ballot or an absentee ballot (request before October 30) or you can vote early at the courthouse between October 22 and November 5. Your vote does count.
I suppose that’s all I have to tell you this week. Let me know who is visiting who and what is going on in your life and I will share it with everyone else. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org . Phone number (870) 595-4997. Check out your Rector, Arkansas website: www.rectorarkansas.com from time to time. I love to be told I need to update it and I take all suggestions to heart. Take a look.
Goodbye for now.
