I am okay with the cool weather. I like the early darkness and the weight of blankets on me at night, the way the pets cuddle close. The kiss of frigid air in the mornings gets me moving and perks up my ageing doggy. When the sun comes up and moves a little higher in the sky it shines on my front door and the glass increases the heat of the sunshine, so I can open the interior door for the dog to look outside. I do like these crisp cold days and long cuddly nights. But where are the fall colors. Come On leaves. Turn.
The other thing I like about this time of year is Halloween and not just because I have been called a witch before. We always have plenty of ghouls, goblins and interesting characters coming down our street on Halloween night. I get plenty of candy. I love to see the costumes. Some are really creative and pretty much everyone is cute. So, bring it on. I’m ready.
Early Voting starts today. You can vote early at either courthouse in the County Clerk’s office. Voting hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. On Monday, November 5, voting will be allowed from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the court house.
Election day, Tuesday November 6 you can vote at the Voting Centers, previously called polling sites, near you. There have been some changes to where you can vote. Some of the Voting Centers were closed due to low numbers of voters and the voters of Payne and Swain precincts will go to Piggott Community Center instead of Nimmons.
You can, however, now cast your vote on voting day at any of the Voting Centers in Clay County from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. If you need any further information you may call the County Clerk’s office at 870 598-2813. If for some reason you have registered to vote and your registration is not on file or if there is a problem, the poll worker should offer you a provisional ballot. If not, you can ask for one. Then you will be told what you need to do to prove your right to vote. You must have a picture ID to cast your ballot.
Your vote is your voice. Use it wisely. There is still time to study the candidates and the bills. Get ready, set, vote. You can check to be sure you are registered at: https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/ . Just enter the state and your name and birthday and it will tell you if you are still registered. You can also get a mail in ballot or an absentee ballot before October 30.
The Fall Craft Fair is November 17 at the Rector Community Center. It is a good place to start you Christmas shopping. Put it on your calendar.
And if you are looking for place to live, I have a cute little two-bedroom house at 514 McNabb for sale. You can see it on Zillow.
I suppose that’s all I have to tell you this week. Let me know who is visiting who and what is going on in your life and I will share it with everyone else. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org . Phone number (870) 595-4997. Check out your Rector, Arkansas website: www.rectorarkansas.com from time to time. I love to be told I need to update it and I take all suggestions to heart. Take a look.
Goodbye for now.
