Alright! December is here! Even though the temperature was close to 70 yesterday, it is winter today. 44 in the middle of the day and I am looking at a gray winter sky like the ones that shrouded all the landscapes in all the Gothic novels I have read. And they say it is not going to snow. Go figure.
At 94 former President George Herbert Walker Bush passed away this weekend. He was a good man and a good president. I am proud to honor him for his service to this country. He is the last of the WWII era men to take the Oval Office. He served in several capacities, none of them meaningless. Not afraid to laugh at himself and not afraid to compromise, he was a one term president, but not at all to be dismissed. He made some hard decisions as all presidents have to do, and he stood by them. God speed, President Bush. Rest well.
Good news! Ronda Haney’s kidney transplant date has been moved up to December 11. She and Alex, the current owner of Ronda’s new kidney, should be able to enjoy a good Christmas dinner. I know they will both appreciate your continued prayers as they ready themselves for this journey. Sarah Pruett Boyd is making bracelets which she will sell as a fundraiser for them. Look at Sarah’s Facebook page for more information. You can also make deposits to the account of Ronda Haney and Alex Green at the Centennial Bank at 809 East 9th Street in Rector or through Paypal: https//www.paypal.me/rondaandalex . Both Ronda and Alex are extraordinary ladies. They both inspire me.
A reminder that the silent auction at the Rector Community Museum begins on December 8. They are auctioning off Rector themed, pre-decorated Christmas trees. Who wouldn’t want a pre-decorated tree? Especially one as historical as a Rector Black Cat tree. The museum will be open from 4:00 pm to 7:00 and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there. Come on down and have some refreshments.
The Clay County Arts Council is sponsoring a Parade of homes this year. The homes of Christine and Kyle Cox, Dr. Randy and Cindy McComb, and the Matilda and Carl Pfieffer House will be the featured houses. Tour is from 2:00pm to 4:00 pm. Sunday, December 9. Tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased ahead of time at the Rector Water Department or at Madpie’s in Piggott, or at any of the homes on the day of the tour.
The Christmas Parade is the 13th with refreshments afterward at the Rector Community Center. And Santa will be there too. The museum will be open before the parade from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. You can place additional bids on the Christmas trees then, and on December 15 from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm. The revenue from the trees go toward the support of the museum
