Here we are with a brand-new year. What are we going to do with it? It is certainly off to a soggy start, with predictions that this will be one of the wettest winters in years. No surprise. Every year lately is the something-est year in a century. I do believe we will be tested in the coming year in ways with which we are currently not familiar. So buckle up, hang on tight and get this ride started.
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and enjoyed a Happy New Year. I watched the New Year arrive with Jessie Malin, Cathy Louder and Georgia Sallee. It is a long-standing tradition for us, although our numbers have shrunk a bit over the years.
Ronda Haney is continuing to improve and is still in Little Rock as she has some preplanned surgeries ahead of her yet. She still needs our strength and prayers. It’s a long and winding road ahead of her. Alex Green is doing well. If you would like to help defray the out-of-pocket expenses they will face during this hospitalization and recovery process, you can contribute to the account at Centennial Bank, 809 East 9th St., Rector. The account is in the name of Ronda Haney and Alex Green. You can also contribute through Paypal: https//www.paypal.me/rondaandalex . And if would also like a snazzy bracelet, go to the Facebook page of Sarah Pruett Boyd https://www.facebook.com/sarahbpruett and she will be glad to sell you a bracelet and give the proceeds to Ronda and Alex.
While I was loafing and not writing a column for two weeks things were still going on in Rector. We are so proud of our Rector Lady Cougars basketball team. On December 28, they swept the NEA Invitational Tournament to take the Division I Championship with a 42-20 win over Palestine-Wheatley. It is only the fourth time in program history! Gabby Clark, Michaela Rients, Kena Parrish and Ellie Ford were named to the NEA All-tournament team. Way to go, Ladies!
The boy’s teams are doing well too. Both Junior High and Senior High Boys teams beat Piggott last week and showed they are getting better with every game.
This is Homecoming Week and there are four home games, so come on out and cheer for the Cougars. Friday is Rector Spirit Day. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for information on the upcoming events.
Plans are started for the second Annual Vietnam Veterans Welcome Home Day on March 24. Save the date and take a look at the Facebook page for further information.
What else is going on that you would like to see in this column. Give me a heads up and I will share it with everyone else. Email: email@example.com . Phone number (870) 595-4997. Check out your Rector, Arkansas website: www.rectorarkansas.com from time to time. I love to be told I need to update it and I take all suggestions to heart. Take a look.
Goodbye for now.
