Halloween is almost here. Just three more days and the ghosts and goblins will terrorize Rector once again. Zombies will rise from the graveyards and shuffle into town, probably right down my street. The fear will be palpable. We will all run and hide, but there will be no place to hide. The end is near! Horrors! Horrors, I tell you! Or maybe chocolate. Yes, definitely. Chocolate will help. I do so love Halloween. I wait all year, here in my haunted house for the march of costumed children to climb my front steps and beg for candy. I am prepared. I am ready. Come on Trick-or-treaters. I dare you! Waaa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
It does look like Thursday will be cold and rainy so dress warmly. Don’t make me have to eat all that candy myself.
Finally, the leaves are turning. As usual, Halloween marks the end of October. We will turn over the calendar page and begin the eleventh month of the year. The days will be short and the nights long. We will smell the wood smoke from fireplaces and sip hot drinks in the evening. Getting close to wintertime. I love this time of year.
Sunday marks the end of Daylight Savings Time so don’t forget to turn your clocks back.
We learned this past week that another Rectorite, Ruth Ann Vanlandingham has passed. She and Bill have lived in Houston for several years, but they were a bright spot in Rector when we moved here. Ruth Ann was part of that essence of Rector that made me feel welcome immediately. We went to church together and she sang in the choir. And lived just down the street. I have missed them since they moved, and we have been Facebook friends, so we kept up with each other. I will miss her and always think of her fondly.
A reminder that The Rector Community Center will hold its annual Fall Craft Fair on November 23. If you have not been a vendor before and want to jump in this year, or if you have not received your registration form, call Linda Robinson at 870 595-3035 for a registration form. It is a lot of fun for everyone involved. The snack bar will be open for breakfast and lunch. Believe me that alone is worth going in for. Mark your calendars. It is a good place to pick up some unique Christmas gifts and it’s inside so rain or shine we will be fine.
That’s it for this week. I am always updating the Rector website. Please take a look at the web page and let me know if there are updates or changes that need to be made. I do take suggestions and criticism fairly well. www.rectorarkansas.com . It’s your page for your town, so give me your input. What else is going on that you would like to see in this column? Give me a heads up and I will share it with everyone else. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org . Phone number (870) 595-4997.
