Frank H. Powell, 58,
Dies Suddenly Of
Frank H. Powell, 58, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home here Sunday evening at 9:45 o'clock.
For several years Mr. Powell had known he had heart trouble and had refrained from all excitement. He had had an active Sunday, but nothing out of the ordinary, as he was an active man, especially in outdoor life.
Mr. Powell was born in Plymouth, Ind., and joined the Methodist Church and was very active in his early life. He was formerly a government engineer in reclamation work on the Mississippi River. The family moved to Rector about 21 years ago, and Mr. Powell, who had to retire from active work on account of his health, took up his hobby -- guns -- and made a business out of it. For some time now, he had all of the gunsmith work he could do.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Sarah Ethel Powell; two daughters, Mrs. Ray Davis, Rector, and Mrs. Robert Crow, Rolla, Mo.; three sons, Frank H. Jr. and Glen L., of Rector, and David K. of Texarkana, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church, Rector, at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, with Rev. J.J. Decker officiating. Interment, in charge of Irby Service, was in Woodland Heights Cemetery.
Frank Henry Powell brought his family to the Blue Cane area near Leonard about 1925 from Indiana. Frank H. Powell was the son of Byrd Powell and Ella Bryant and was born in 1889. He married in 1906.
Most of his children were born in Indiana and married after moving to Arkansas. Daughter, Laura Powell, married Ray Davis in 1930, and I found another daughter, Marjorie Powell, who could have been the Mrs. Robert Crow, that was mentioned living in Rolla, Mo., in 1947.
Frank H. Powell Jr. was the oldest son, and next was Glenn Powell, and then David Powell. Tragically, the youngest Powell son, Lloyd, was hit and killed by a car in 1932 at age 10 while walking home from Leonard School.
Frank Sr. is buried in Woodland Heights Cemetery, and his wife, Sarah Ethel, was buried next to him when she died in 1962.
