Tropical Depression Ike Hits Piggott (photo)Posted Sunday, September 14, 2008, at 4:56 PM
The National Weather Service, with the aid of NASA satellites, predicted Hurricane Ike to turn eastward and pass through North-central Arkansas Sunday morning. It did, with the damage pictured above, flattening a row of trees in front of Murphy Health and Rehab (photo-Ken Renshaw).

Solar System Ambassador/Saturn Observation Campaign
Kenneth is one of 494 volunteer educators and astronomers who donate their time to educate America's youth, and the general public, about astronomy and the U.S. space program.
Organized in 1999 by NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab,it focuses on spacecraft built by the JPL such as Voyager, Mars Rover, Galileo, Cassini as well as the Hubble Space Telescope.
Renshaw is one of four ambassadors in Arkansas, and makes presentations to all age and experience groups from pre-school to university science level.

After Hurricane Ike closed it for 12 days (with some damage), Johnson Space Center will again open Monday, September 22. Mission Control for the space station was moved, with controllers operating their computers further inland, from Austin, Texas. Johnson Space Center (JSC) is between Houston and Galveston. One humourous note-I visited JSC in 2001. Due to some back problems my wife was having, I pulled up to the door in a no-parking area to get her a wheelchair. I locked my keys in the car, and NASA security had to break into my vehicle!
