Spectacular Double Conjunction

Posted Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 2:07 PM

In the western sky, Monday, April 26, the crescent Moon (with the dark side visible, due to the earth shining on it) joins the distant dipper-shaped star cluster, the Pleiades, and, at bottom, the planet Mercury, in the western sky after sunset. This shot, by Kenneth Renshaw, was made in front of the Piggott Community Center, with a Canon Rebel xTi digital camera (ISO1600, 5 seconds at f/8).
