Make a Wish

Posted Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at 2:44 PM

Oh my stars.......ever had a three year old boy run up to you with a dandelion that is begging to be blown off its home plant, and say "Let's make a wish!"? You know what I mean, those white fuzzy weeds in your yard that you always huffed and puffed and blew with your whole being just to watch each little white fuzzy umbrella float away when you were kids? Well, my precious nephew, Cash Michael did that to me last night. Moments like that are the reasons he has our whole family tightly twisted around his little bitty pinkie! My sister surely has her hands filled with that child!! The smile on my face just widen and I look like the cat who just ate the canary. I mean, he is the sweetest thing in the world and at three he knows what he wants and does not give in to anyone else's ideas of what would be better for him at that moment in time. He was suppose to go with me to exercise class after school, I was then suppose to take him to his mother at the ball field where she was working the concession stand.

Here is what happened:

I left work at 4:40 pm to go to the preschool where Jamie Simmons is the director to pick up Cash Michael by 5 pm. Of course when he saw me he made me feel as if I were the most important person in the world!! His smile was huge and he ran up to me with his arms stretch wide like he was so excited to see me!! He is such a player. As we were walking out to the truck, "Where are we going?" was his main concern. "Well, sweetie, we are going to exercise class." "NO! I am going to your house." "No Cash, we are going to exercise and then I am taking you to Mom at the ball field." "I'm hungry." Oh my stars...he knows I am going to buy him something, anything just to get him to go along with my plans. After leaving the General Dollar Store with a "really sweet" bubble blowing kit and Spiderman candy, we are at the park blowing bubbles and playing with Cash Michael's friend Jacob. Fifteen minutes before exercise class I open the truck door and toss him in the backseat, it really was quite a site. Cash Michael was pretty good during class but at the end of class we have to do 12 push-ups and while blowing out to push myself up on number 10 I see Cash Michael doing push-ups right beside me! Oh how I love that kid! During the cool down Cash is right there doing side stretchs and runners lunges. This is the point where he was suppose to go to his Mother....but Cash had other ideas. Subway for ham sandwich, yogurt, cookie, and chocolate milk..now the ball field? Nope! When his mother was finished at the ball field she found us on the front pouch blowing bubbles, lots of bubbles. I had bubble juice all over me. Cash had it in his hair, on his hands, his shorts were covered in bubble juice. I know that when April gave him a bath later that night no soap was needed!

So what do all these things have to do with that furry little dandelion? EVERYTHING! If I had not listened to Cash Michael and brought him home with me I would have missed that heart stopping moment when he ran up to me with that dandelion and told me to "Make a wish Aunt Barbi, make a wish!" Well I did make a wish and it came true. Maybe Cash's will too!
