Jeremiah Tucker Lewis (1849-1934), brought his wife, Vachel Adaline Johnson Lewis, and family, from Hamilton County, Ill., in 1899 and lived in Clay County the rest of his life. He was married in Hamilton County in 1868, and they had 14 children, all born in Illinois. The children included James William, Sarah Caroline, Iva Elizabeth, Euphemia, Wilson, Alice, Jeremiah Thomas, Eliza Melvena, John Calvin, Laura Adaline, Sofia A., Lora Phoebe, Bertha A. and Jeremiah “Jerry” Thomas Lewis, Jr.
James William Lewis (1868-1945), married Lucy V. Lowe and no information was found on her. His second marriage was to Alwilde Cantwell (1868-1896) in 1888, and she had two children, Larkin Lemuel Lewis (1890-1969), who married Ima Josephine Massingill and had three children; and Grace Lewis Davis Tolete. Larkin and his wife died in Los Angeles, Calif. James William Lewis's next marriage was to Armenta Ann Blake and they had Chloe Viola, who married Clarence Mann in 1920; Lawton Theodore of Oregon; Arminta Faye (a twin) who married Wayne Gum of Kennett; William Ray (a twin) married Opal Boner and had Willie Faye “Pinky” Brown and Phyllis Wagster; Iva Lee married Tom Benson of Kennett; Evan Moneta was an invalid since her high school days; and Irene Lewis, who married James Henson of Kennett and had three children.
Sarah Caroline Lewis (1871-1920) married John Burch and had Flay, John, Frank, Emma and Claudia, who is buried in Little Flock Cemetery.
Iva Elizabeth Lewis (1874-1955) married Press Allen and died in Saline County, Ill.
Euphemia Lewis (1875-1972) married Pink Harris, had five children and died in Saline County, Ill.
No information was found for Wilson Lewis (1878-) or Alice Lewis (1879-). They probably both died young.
Jeremiah Thomas Lewis (1879-) was not found on any census. He may be a twin to Alice and died young. He has the same name as the last child born to the couple, which happened sometimes when a child had died. It also appears that his date of death was confused with that of the last child. Was there a family bible record for him?
Eliza Melvina Lewis (1881-) married George E. Vantrease and lived in Franklin County, Ill., for 50 years and is buried there. They had four children.
John Calvin Lewis (1884-1953) was born in Hamilton County, Ill., and died in Piggott and is buried in the Piggott Cemetery. He married Lou Ella Neely, the daughter of Martin W. and Elizabeth Hooks Neeley, on Aug. 9, 1903 in Clay County, and they had Linnie, who married Louis J. Langley, Ollie Elizabeth, who married John Willard Files, Lorean, who married Kenneth H. Wiggs, Chalen married Constance Norred and one child who preceded them.
Laura Adeline Lewis (1887-1978) married Harvey Alonzo Underwood in 1902 in Clay County, and they are buried in the Piggott Cemetery. Their children were Clarence Underwood, Douglas Underwood, Mrs. Floyd (Edna) Harber, Mrs. Roderick (Alma) Shannon, Mrs. Roy (Grace) Ford, Amos H. Underwood, Norman D. Underwood, Eugene E. Underwood, Mrs. Isaac (Macel) Moore, Sidney Underwood, Roger Underwood and two children who died young.
Sofia A. Lewis (1889-) probably died young.
Lora Phoebe Lewis (1894-1919) married Joseph Alvis Nichols in 1912 and had 10 children. Lora and Joseph and both buried in the Piggott Cemetery. The children were Preston Lewis, Jerry William, Hershel, Joe Jr., Jack, James, Imogene Hammett, Laurene Skidmore, Charles William Beakstead and Beth Rainwater Lemmons.
Bertha A. Lewis (1894-1919) married Ott Garrison (1891-1976) in 1916 in Clay County and the story is she died in childbirth. It's unknown if the child also died.
Jeremiah “Jerry” Thomas Lewis (1899-1984) was born in Saline County, Ill., and married Mary John Langley and they are buried in Piggott. Their children were Janice May (Charles) Martin, Maxine Maida (Vern) Featherston and Adrian C. (Betty) Lewis.
