George Washington Duffel (1816-186-) was here with his wife, Abigail (Abby) (1826- ) and three children on the 1850 Greene Co., Census. George may have been here as early as the 1841 as his first child was born in Arkasas about 1841. The family shows up on the 1850 census.
George W. was born in Williamson Co., Tenn. to William Duffel, born 1788 in N.C., and Nancy Hungerford Duffel, born in Tennessee. George W. died before 1870 and Abigail was living in 1870 with their daughter, Mary E. Vowell and her husband Robert W. Vowell and their five children. Abigail’s sons, Robert and George Washington, Jr. were also living with the Vowells. George W. and Abigail had these children: Thomas C., Mary E., Nancy Alice, John E., George Washington, Jr., Robert Murray, and Elizabeth Duffel. George and Abigail’s burial places are not known.
Thomas C. Duffel (abt. 1841-1906), son of George W. and Abigail, married Susan Elizabeth (Lizzie) Patton. HE was in the Confederate Army with Fifth Ark. Inf., Co. A. and applied for a pension in 1901 and died 16 Oct., 1906. His widow applied in 1907 and pension payments were made until 1914 and dropped in 1915 according to records in the Piggott Courthouse. Their children were: (1) William Gilford Duffel married Joella Mann, daughter of John and Susan Mann, 12 Jan. 1887 at Tillmanville, Ark. and had James, John, Charles, and Lucy. John Duffel (1887-1958) married Elma Lura Montgomery 1908 and had Marie Blan (Fred), Lou Ella, Rev. Henry Duffel, and William Gilford Duffel. (2) Robert Pinkney Duffel (1863-1940) married Sarah J. Duncan and Willie Ann Sides and had Thomas Pinkney Duffel who married Mary Julia ----- and May Frazier and died in Arizona; Jessie R. Duffel; MElia J. Duffel married George A. Morgan and died in Flint; Ozie Duffel died in San Berdina, Calif.; Nellie G. Duffel Petty is buried in Paragould; Ella Mae Duffel married John L. Sidebottom and died in Calif.; Willie Wayne Duffel died in Calif.; Lillian V. Duffel married Sim L. Potter and died in Knobel, Ark. (3) James Monroe Duffel married Virginia Ardella (Jennie) Wooten in 1886 in Holcolm, Mo. and had Mrs. Emma Farmer of Campbell; Mrs. Herman Parks (Leona) of Piggott who had Pauline Parks Vincent, H. A. Parks, J. K. (Pete) Parks, Herman Parks, Jr.; and Jack Parks; Mrs. Jim W. Watson of Texas; E. M. Duffel; Charley Chester Duffel; Cleve Chestley Duffel; Ely Edgar Duffel; Earle Willie Duffel; and Ethrie Duffel; (4) Mary L. Duffel; (5) Thomas J. Duffel; (6) Lula A. Duffel; (7) Jubilee (Juby) Duffel (1875-1965) married Mollie Stafford, was a lifelong resident of Clay County and died at age 90 in Paragould Hospital; and (8) Peter Duffel.
Mary E. Duffel (1838-1892), daughter of George W. and Abigail, married Robert W. Vowell in 1856 in Weakley Co., Tennessee and had these children in Tennessee; Amanda, Jincy, Wilma (Willie), Margaret Elizabeth married Robert Calvin Estes, Harriett P., Mary Melvina, and Robert E. Vowell.
