John Parks (1840-1933) was born in Weakley Co., Tenn. to Fields Luther Parks Sr. and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Pope Parks (1838-1914) and was on the 1880 Clay Co., Census with his wife Martha Jane C. (Grisson) Parks and four children: James Obediah, John W., Ella J. and Emma Estelle Parks. They had lost on child earlier according to the information on the 1900 census. John and Jane were married in Gibson Co., Tenn. Jan. 27, 1860 and their children were born in Tennessee. John farmed near Greenway and died in Haywood Township on April 21, 1933. He is buried in Williams Cemetery, 3 miles west of Piggott. Jane died in 1914 and is probably buried there also but has no marker.
John Park’s second marriage was to Anna Underwood (b.1869 Union Co., Ill.-d.1950), the daughter of John Asbury and Elizabeth Beliew Underwood on 29 April, 1924, and she received his Civil War Pension after he died. She lived with her brother, Charles A. and his wife, Clara Cassandra Pool Underwood, in Piggott when she first received the pension. At some point she moved back to Anna, Union Co., Illinois where she died. John had signed up for a pension in August, 1919, age 78, (Pension File No. 20244). Her pension application papers stated that the casket for John Parks cost $75.00. Raymond Crews was manager of the W. H. Irby Funeral Parlor in Piggott at the time. Dr. J. E. McGuire was John’s doctor. John Parks was with the 31 Tenn. Infantry from 1861-1865.
James Obediah Parks (1868-1905), son of John and Martha Jane, was born in Tennessee and died in Clay County. He was a widower on the 1900 census and had a daughter, Eva, who was born in July, 18887. His second marriage was to Mrs. Vandalia Landrum on Nov. 3, 1901, and she later married George Vance in Sept., 1905.
John W. Parks (1871-1928), son of John and Martha Jane, married Margaret Ann Fitzgerald in 1895, and they had six children: (1) Cora Jane Parks (1896-1955) married Edgar Allen Haywood in 1915 and had Lois, Flora, Geneva Couch, Dessie Mae Greene, Louis, and Edgar, Jr. (2) Orah Lee Parks (1898-1956) married Allson L. Hillyer and they had Opal Vana, Ray, Leroy, Glendale D., Johnnie, and Bertha Mae Burton. Orah and A. L. are buried in Williams Cemetery, 3 miles west of Piggott. (3) Claude Clarence Parks (1899-1969) married Gracie Mae Stultz in 1902 and had a daughter Margaret Marie Parks. He married Mrs. Mallie Southern in 1923, and Dessie Hillyer about 1927. His other children are Clarence Parks, Mary Mitchell, Josephine Clayton, Ethel Wheat, Martha Ferguson, and Wanda Beaver. (4) Robert N. Parks (1912-1992) married Cora Alice Mobley in 1931 and had Robert Parks, Jr., Virginia Robertson, and Loretta Holt. (5) Ida Francis Parks (1907- ) married Henry (Hy) Mullherin in 1923. (6) John Patrick (1915- ).
Ella J. Parks (1873-1956) was the daughter of John and Martha Jane, her married name is needed.
Emma Estelle Parks (1876-1956), daughter of John andMartha Jane, married Alfred Marvin Clements (1876-1947) and had ten children: (1) Alfred Short Clements married Goldie BEdwell in 1928 and had Lucille McDonald, and Carl Clements. (2) Elmer Clements (3) Martha French (4) Hattie Stallings (5) and Lennie Cole. Five children preceded the mother and were not named.
