Henry Nathan Owens (Owen) (1864-1937), was born in White County, Ill., and married Clara Belle Slater (1871-1958), in White County, Ill, on Dec. 25, 1890, and shows up on the 1910 Clay County Census in Payne Township. In both 1920 and 1930 the family is in Haywood Township. Henry died in 1937 and is buried in the Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway. They had nine children, and six preceded the mother in death. The children were Albert Nathaniel (1890-1952); Lawrence Henry (1893-1976); Stella M. (1895-before 1920); Edith (1897-), who married Fred Edwards in August of 1912; Unknown; Versie Dewey (1904-1957); Bessie D. (1905-); Cecil (1908-1989); and Elsie Irene (1911-1993).
Albert Nathaniel Owens, 62, son of Henry N. and Clara, was born in White County, Ill., and is buried in the Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway. He married Cora Elizabeth Tippy (1872-1966), in Clay County and had three children who preceded their mother, along with Verda Lou Johnson, Marie Atnip, Bertie Lou Johnson, Revis Owens, Doyle Owens, Bobby, Warren and Robert. At the time of his death he was a member of the Patterson, Ark., General Baptist Church.
Lawrence Henry Owen, 82, son of Henry N. and Clara, was born in Carmi, White County, Ill., died in the Piggott Hospital and is buried in the Mitchell Cemetery. He was married June 2, 1912, to Minnie Bell Lavely (1896-1974), the daughter of Elisha and Elizabeth Lavely. Lawrence and Minnie had nine children—Vernie married Ivory Johnson, Norman married Polly Gattis, Virgil Elmo married Dorothy Gattis, L.H., Elsie Litchfield, Juanita Gentry, Lois, who married Royal Broadway, infant Edna and infant Lucille Owens.
Stella M. Owens, daughter of Henry N. and Clara, married David Robinson on Aug. 3, 1912, in Clay County and she died some time before 1920. He son, Ira H., was living with her parents in 1920 in Haywood Township.
Edith Owens, daughter of Henry N. and Clara, married Fred Edwards on Aug. 21, 1912, and both were from Rector. They were not found on the 1920 Census.
Versie Dewey Owens, 53, son of Henry N. and Clara, died in Greenway and is buried in the Mitchell Cemetery. He married Mary M. Williams, the daughter of Sherman A. and Sarah J. Williams, and they had L.J. Owens, Mary Francis Harmon, Alvis “Bud” Owens, Marvin Owens, Wanda Hayes, Margie Abee, Viola Carroll, Sherman Owens and William Owens.
Bessie D. Owens was the daughter of Henry N. and Clara and no information was found of a marriage.
Cecil Owens, 81, son of Henry N. and Clara, was born in Greenway and is buried in the Michigan Memorial Cemetery. He was first married to Mary Magdaline Cosby. His second marriage was to Beulah Winstead of Michigan. His children were Julos Owen, who married Flora Mae Reagan; Beulah Wyatt, Goldie Lewis, James Owens, Sarah Toombs, Louise Colbert and Thomas Owens.
Elsie Irene Owens, 81, daughter of Henry N. and Clara, was born at Nimmons, died at the Piggott Hospital and is buried in the Mitchell Cemetery. She was married to James Everett Hatcher (1905-1963) in September of 1927 and they had Dallas, Kenneth, Leon, Denver, Zelma and Donald Dale Hatcher. She married Orin Nettles (1895-1973), the son of John and Peggy Bare Nettles, in 1968, and he had been previously married and left 10 children. Irene was preceded by five children, as only Leon survived.
