John G. Price (1834-1914) was born in December in Tennessee and died in Clay Co., Ark. on Jan. 21 at Boydsville and is buried in Hardin Cemetery, southwest of Crockett, Ark. He was first married to Jane Francis Klutts on 17 Feb., 1856 in Weakley Co., Tenn. and had six children: John Ciccero Price, born May 7, 1857, married Ada Hooper in 1879 in Greene Co., Ark.; Addah H. Price (1862- ) died in Dunklin Co., Mo. 5 April 1889; Betty Price who married William Riley Pendergrass; Robert Franklin Price (1866-1915) married Mollie Evaline Gattoway and their son, Luther Price, lived in Campbell, Mo.; Alonzo Price, born 23 Dec. 1874, married Mary Bradberry Vick and had Lura Price; LAvina F. Price (1871- ). John G.’s wife, Jane, died 5 April, 1889 in Dunklin Co., Mo.
John G. Price’s second marriage was to Sallie Ann Bradberry (1846- ) on 5 April, 1891 at Boydsville, Ark. She has a stone in Hardin Cemetery with only a birth date. In 1920 she was a 73 year old widow living with the James R. Bradberry family and was listed as an aunt to James.
John G. PRive is on the 1880 Hickman Co., Ky. Census with his wife, Jane, Abbie 18, Robert F. 14, Ida E. 8, and Alonzo F. 8. He is listed on the 1900 Clay Co. Census with his wife, Sally Ann, in Bradshaw Township. In 1910 he and his wife are in Johnson Township. He died in January, 1914.
James G. Price was a Confederate private with Co. C, Second Regiment of Tennessee Mounted Infantry. He was discharged at Nashville, Tenn. 19 Jan., 1865. His pension number is 925747. He applied for a pension on 8 Aug., 1890 at Boydsville because of a lung disease, deafness, and chronic rheumatism which kept him from farming or other manual labor. After his death, his widow, Jane, also received a pension on his record. Some of the men vouching for his statements were W. R. Pendergrass, Giles Bower, and F. J. Fiplin?, and David A. Burson, all of Boydsville and neighbors. Carl Parrish, L. J. Boles, R. A. Cates, Wm. J. Parrish, Earnest C. Matheney, F. M. Bell, A. Cates of Boydsville and G. W. Holthouse of Dunklin Co., Mo. attested to her facts.
John G. Price bought land from the Land Office of Little Rock on 21 Aug., 1900. Doc. No. 9232 and Misc. Doc. No. 20655, Homestead original; Part No. 1: WSW, Sec. 7, Twp. 20 N., R 7E, 71.280 acres.
Betty Price, daughter of John A. and Jane Francis, married William Riley Pendergrass, son of Walter Green and Nellie Mae Reagan Pendergrass. They are buried in Mount Gilead Cemetery in Dunklin Co., Mo. Later William Riley married Mrs. Mary Jane Hall. William Riley and Mary Jane had Beulah and Virgil Pendergrass. Mary Jane Hall Pendergrass later married James Hutchison, and had children.
Robert Franklin Price (1866-1935), son ofJohn G. and Jane, was born in Tennessee and died in Campbell, Mo. HE married Mollie Evaline Ganoway and had Ella G. Price, and Luther E. Price who lived in Campbell.
Alonzo J. Price (1873- ), son of John G. and Jane Francis, married Mary T. Bradberry Vick, widow of H. H. Vick, and had Lura Price.
NOTE—Maxine Book, who has done extensive research on her Nixon family line, sent in these additions and corrections to the article on “Andrew Winfield Nixon Here in 1890,” published June 20, 2018. Andrew Winfield Nixon (1854-1937) married Margaret Caroline Beckman and came to Clay County. Their children would tell how it took them a month to make the trip in a covered wagon and crossing the Mississippi River at Memphis, on a mule-drawn ferry. Andrew married Mary Claridy on Oct. 29, 1875. Their son's (James W. Nixon) second marriage was to Mary Gilbee. A daughter, Elizabeth “Mollie” F. Nixon, was first married to Claud Harrington Baker, and they had two sons-Lee and Joseph Frank Baker. J. Frank Baker owned and operated a store at Hickoria, Ark. In the late 1930s. Mollie's second marriage was to Starling N. Cato. Cora Lee Nixon (1889-1971), a daughter to Andrew, married Alvin Hutchinson (1879-1911) in 1907. He was a young widower with two little girls, Jocie and Arvie, from an earlier marriage. Cora and Alvin had one son, Lawrence Alvin Hutchinson. After Alvin's death, Cora married John Claud Dodson, who was also a widower with two young girls, Peal and Leona Dodson. Leona died as a teenagers and Pearl married Vernon Bradford of Piggott. Lawrence Alvin Hutchinson (1909-1980), son of Cora and Alvin, married Beatrice Smith (1910-2002) in July of 1928 and they had one daughter, Alice Maxine Hutchinson, in 1930. Maxine married Herbert Leon Hill in 1947 and they had four children-Lynda Lois, Stephen Anthony, Donna Jean and David Mark Hill. After Herbert Hill died in 1975, Maxine married Raymond Lowell Book.
