John Allen Hooks (1851-1913) and his wife, Sarah L. Thaney Neeley Hooks (1853-1940) and their first two children, Alice Jocie and Adella Pearl, were in Greene Co., Ark. by 1879 when his twins, Arthur and Ollie were born on 27 Feb., 1879. John’s obituary staets he moved here in 1877. They are on the 1880 Clay Co. Census. Later they had Lula, Icy, Charles Bevel, and Zora Edna Hooks. John Allen Hooks was born in Crockett Co., Tenn. (Crockett was formed from Dyer Co.). He joined Blooming Grove Church when it was organized, and was a mason, an Eastern Star, and an Odd Fellow member. John and his wife are buried in Blooming Grove Cemetery. Three sons and three sons-in-law were pallbearers at his funeral. Sarah was born in Texas and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lula Gatewood, north of Rector. Sarah left two brothers, John Neeley of Malden and Jim Neeley of Fagus.
Alice J. Hooks (1875-1948), daughter of John and Sarah, was born in Dyer Co., Tenn. and died suddenly of a heart attack at her home in Piggott. She married Elbert Royall Crews 12 Dec., 1894 in Clay County and had Veda (1899-1900), Era (1904-1908), Aubrey Crews married Klugh Wagner, James Elbert married Aileen Bucy, Cecil Crews married Lucille Potter, and Gaylon Crews. Alice and Elbert are buried at Blooming Grove Cemetery.
Adella Pearl Hooks (1876-1948), daughter of John and Sarah, was born in Tennessee and married Thomas A. Reeves (1872-1940) in Nov. 1893 in Clay County. They had Voles (Lois), Carl, Ethel, and Ouida Reeves. Adella and Thomas are buried in Blooming Grove Cemetery.
Arthur Hooks, a twin, (1879-1947), son of John and Sarah, was born in Arkansas. HE married Willie Watson in Oct. 1898 in Clay County and had Clyde A. Hooks and MRs. Orville Sanders. Arthur and Willie are buried at Blooming Grove.
Ollie Hooks, a twin, (1887-1949), son of John and Sarah, was born in Rector. HE married Lula Mae Beckley in March 1907 and they had Imogene Cullum, Floretta Tanner, J. C. Hooks, Floyd Guyrane, and one child preceded them. Charlie and Lula are buried in Blooming Grove Cemetery. They had later moved to Piggott from Rector.
Icy Lena Hooks (1889-1949), daughter of John and Sarah, married Henry Lee Nancy in April 1907 and had Roy, John, Alfred, Obbie, and a child died in infancy. Icy and Henry are buried in the Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway.
Lula Mae Hooks (1891-1988), daughter of John and Sarah, married Glennie E. Gatewood in March 1911 and had a daughter, Alymeta Clarida. They are buried in Woodland Heights Cemetery.
Zora Edna Hooks (1893-1974), daughter of John and Sarah, married Carl C. Parrish in 1920. Edna was a school teacher and died in the St. Bernard Hospital in Jonesboro. They are buried in the Rector Cemetery. Zora had three children: Earl was born and died 14 April, 1925, Mary Francis and Dayne Parrish.
