Tennessee Columbus Romine (Romines) (1818-1875) and Andrew Jackson Romine (1821-d. in Civil War) came to Greene Co., Ark. in time to be listed on the 1860 Census. They were the sons of Samuel George (1789-1875) and Alabama (Alle) Sively Romine (1788-1850) who were born in Alabama and moved to Tennessee. When their parents and their two sisters died, the boys came to Clay County from Hardin Co., Tenn. and were the first Romines to arrive.
Tennessee Columbus Romine married Rhoda Swain in 1943 in Tennessee and had these children: (1) Samuel Jasper (1848-1914) was born in Tennessee and married Sisley Jane Scruggs and had Edward Tennessee who died in Michigan and married Fannie F. Grace; Lacressie; Rutha Jane married Charles Fortner and died at Essex, Mo.; Mary Cordella married Benjamin Franklin Miley and David Fortner; William Samuel married Hallie Jane Maxwell and had Carl H. who is buried in Corning; Alma married Delbert Toombs, and they are buried in Corning; Earl, a retired plumber and electrician and formerly of Corning, is buried at Beebe, Ark.; Harold Floyd married Imogene Polk and is buried in Corning; William (Bill); Edna M. lived in Indiana; Agnes Margaret married Otho Bradberry and had Charlotte Vaught and Leonard (Buddy) and lived in Piggott; Alta Bierman of St. Louis; and Lena Langston. (2) Mahala Alice (1848-1911) was born in Hardin Co., Tenn. and married James Franklin Jones. (3) Mary Elizabeth (1854-1933) was born in Greene Co., Ark.; married Phillip Collins; and died in Stoddard Co. (4) Rachen (1855-1870) died in Pope Co., Ark. (5) William Henry (1858-1941). (6) Thomas Lee (1859-1938). (7) Charles A. (1860- ). (8) Martha K. (1863- ). (9) Benjamin D. (1865-1872).
Andrew Jackson (A. J.) Romine was born in Alabama and married Matilda Cathey Tines (1823-1881) in McNairy Co., Tenn. in 1840 and had these children: James S. (1842-1909), Mary A. (1844- ), William C. (1845- ) and his wife Mary had Eugene D. “Huge” and Myrtie Faye Oakley, Mahala A., Sarah Elizabeth (1849-1924), Rutha A. (1852- ), Richard Tennessee (Dick) (1854-1920) married Caroline Classcock, and Matilda C. Romine (1856-1925) married William Z. Eagle (1851-1914) and had Eliza Belle, Meade A., Florena E., and Eadie Clara Eagle. They came from Hardin Co, Tenn. and are listed on the 1860 Greene Co., Census. A. J. had a land grant from the Helena Land Office issued 20 April 1860 for 80 acres. (West half of the North East Quarter of Sec. 19 in Twp 20 north of range 7 East). Matilda was a widow in 1870, and it is believed that Andrew died in the Civil War.
Eugene E. Romine (1885-1947), son of William C. and Mary Romine and grandson of A. J., was born in Boydsville and died in Detroit, Mich. HE farmed in Boydsville until 1940 when he moved to Detroit. Eugene married Rachel E. Irwin (1889-1976), daughter of Calvin A. and Mattie Vaughn Irwin, and they had Rudy Eugene and Denver D. Romine. Eugene is buried in Piggott and Rachel in Mars Hill Cemetery. Rudy Eugene Romine (1908-1989) married Sadie Cochran, daughter of George and Louzzy (Sis) Easterwood Cochran, and they had Darwin Eugene, Gaylon Leroy, Bobby Wayland, and Ronnie Romine. Denver D. Romine (1912-1985) was born in Boydsville and died in the Piggott Hospital, age 73. HE had a son, Bill Romine, by his first marriage. His second marriage was to Thelma Crews Evans and her children by a first marriage were Bonnie, Bob, Tony and Jack Evans.
Myrtie Faye Romine (1897-1981), daughter of William C. and Mary Romine, married Oakley T. Wall in Dec., 1919 in Clay County and had two children, Demetra Ainsworth and Devon Wall. Myrtie is buried in Mars Hill Cemetery.
