Ice storm images

Tuesday morning, Jan 27, as the ice storm first coated the region. This shot is looking south down North Third from the intersection of West Orr in Piggot.
Before they started to fall the region's power lines were covered in a heavy coat of ice.
By Tuesday afternoon trees on the courtsquare began to shed their branches under the weight of the ice, and David Finley of the Piggott MLWS was helping remove a downed power line in front of Holcomb's Pharmacy.
After losing power at the newspaper offices in Piggott and Rector staff members gathered in the district courtroom in the Rector City Hall to put together the Jan. 28 editions. Dianna Risinger, Tim Blair, Ryan Rogers and Brad Holland (pictured) all worked into the early morning hours.
Early Wednesday, Jan. 28, the extent of the damage became much clearer in the light of day. This photo was taken around 7:30 a.m. on West Court in Piggott.
When trees are coated with up to four inches of ice something has to give, and this photo is a perfect example of the aftermath.
The morning sun on Wednesday morning illuminated the ice giving the world an artificial look.
Holland's Trailer Court is built in a grove of trees, and most of them shed their branches in the ice storm.
The old tree in front of the Clay County Courthouse was heavily damaged by the ice storm and had to be cut down the following week.
Gov. Mike Beebe and his entourage visited Piggott on Friday, Jan. 30 and arrived in these two Blackhawk helicopters at the Piggott airport.
Gov. Beebe (in red jacket) speaks with local leaders at the airport as he visited the region in response to the ice storm.
The ice storm brought crews from across the nation to Northeast Arkansas. These workers are with Pike Electric of Sumter, S.C. and were working along South Front Street in Piggott on Sunday, Feb. 8.
This generator at the Piggott Community Center allowed that facility to house evacuees, and the shelter has remained open since.
The clean-up from the ice storm is going to take some time, as tons of limbs and debris will require disposal. Here city workers gather limbs along North Front Street on Sunday, Feb. 8.
