A Texas family avoided serious injury when their airplane ran off the runway at Piggott airport. The pilot (with back to camera) talks about the incident with Sam Williams of the Piggott Police Department.
The plane, flown by Joseph C. Casey, 41, sits just 194 feet shy of the end of the 2,550 foot Piggott runway.
Later a boom truck from Solis Grain Bins was called-in to help extract the plane from the ditch.

Normadene Lankford cuts her retirement cake Tuesday, March 24 at the Wise Company in Piggott. Lankford worked for both Brown Shoe and Wise in the 55 years she spent in the building, and retired just a few days shy of her 80th birthday.

The Piggott Lions Club honored Lloyd Russell and Dr. G.S. "Gary" Dehls at a recent meeting at the Sugar Creek Country Club. Russell was a founding member of the club, and Dehls has been a member almost continuesly since 1959.
The old oak tree in front of the Clay County courthouse was cut down due to damage from the ice storm. This photo shows how an infestation helped lead to the tree's downfall.
An effort is currently underway to replace this flag pole, in front of the Piggott courthouse, with a new 40-foot pole.
