District Tournament Day One
April 17, 2009
Scenes from the Mohawk's first round district tournament game at Independece Park, Thursday April 16.
Prior to the first round game former coach Brock Swann and a crew of volunteer groundskeepers prepped the field.
Swann, who threw out the ceremonial first pitch, was one of many who helped get the field in top shape. The Tribe is shown warming up along the left field line in the background.
After throwing out the first pitch Swann receives recognition from the team, and probably handed out some encouraging words.
The Brookland Bearcats stand ready for their first round match-up with the Mohawks.
Coach Shawn Hearn goes over the ground rules with the umpires and Brookland coach prior to first pitch.
Alek Samples delivers the first pitch, a called strike, against the Bearcats. Samples hit the lead-off man, but worked his way out of the jam by retiring the next three batters.
Colby Lovelace drove in Hayden McMillon for the Mohawk's first run in the 2-0 win over Brookland.
Daniel Cheshire is one of three seniors on the squad, along with Tyler Grubb and Jonathan Wright.
Samples works to a Brookland hitter in the mid-innings, as first baseman Lovelace stands ready in the field.
Mohawk lead-off man Hayden McMillon, another talented underclassman, scores the second of the Mohawk's two runs.
Independence Park looking great under the lights as the Mohawks bat in the bottom of the sixth inning.
