Vance Pearcy of Jonesboro began the process of refurbishing the Oshkosh b'Gosh sign on the Feather Your Nest building in early May. The building housed The Piggott Times from late 1974 to March, 2009. Prior to that it was the home of Cargill and Son's Furniture (at the Hotpoint sign) and as will be noted in the final product The Busy Bee.
There were two graduation ceremonies at Piggott High School. The first was held for Trent Edwards, as the lone senior on the Mohawk baseball team prepared to leave for the state tournament. School Board President Neil Morgan is shown congratulating the new grad.
The Mohawk baseball team got a send-off as they left for the state tournament, but returned the following day after their first round contest was rained-out.
As the month progressed so did work on the sign project.
A large crowd of people waited over an hour to ride the Operation Lifesaver/Union Pacific safety train and are shown here beginning to board.
This as to be the coolest way to ride a train, but only a few of these choice seats were available.

Memorial Day was marked at the Piggott Cemetery with more than 700 flags posted on the graves of veterans.
The Memorial Day wreath was placed by veteran Bob Byrd (center) and he was escorted by American Legion Commander John Harmon (left) and VFW Commander Joe Fowlkes.
The beautiful monument at the entrance of the Piggott Cemetery was completed by O.L. Mowery with the help of Emmett Crittenden in 1965.
The entrance to the original Lorance Cemetery on the southeast side of the Piggott Cemetery. Most accounts indicated that the first grave was that of the child a family passing through on the old Military Road, and that the girl was buried almost directly under the column on the right.
There was a big turnout for the Piggott Parks and Recreation Department's fishing rodeo at Heritage Park.
