County approves several measures

Hiring of a new probation officer was approved by the Clay County Quorum Court in a meeting Monday night. Justice Jim Jeffress of the finance committee cautioned other justices regarding surplus levels and said they would not be as high as originally estimated because of the new position, but noted the hiring will bring more money to the county in the long run...

Tough first half slows down Junior Cougars

The Rector Junior Cougars were in action at Walnut Ridge this past Thursday as they visited the Bobcats. Rector was downed in the conference matchup, 38-14. The hosts led throughout -- 14-8, 30-8 and 30-14. Walnut Ridge's 30 points in the first half proved to be too much for the young Cougars to overcome, despite a well-balanced second half. Rector was outscored by 22 points in the first half of the game, but allowed only a two-point differential in the second half...
