Rector to host state tourney

Rector will be the site for the 2008 state Class AA high school softball tournament, as announced earlier this week by the Arkansas Activities Association. This marks the first time a state tournament has been held in Rector. The event will take place at the Jeremy McDaniel Memorial Sports Complex at the city's Memorial Park. It will feature the top 2A school teams from across the state and provide area residents with the opportunity to see the division's finest softball players in action...
Building renovations undertaken by city; including historic jail

The City of Rector currently is working on a project to restore two historic buildings as part of a new community development program. The immediate project involves the old city jail property on Main Street. The property is being donated to the city by Crockett Farms and will house the community development office. It also will serve as a visitors center for Rector, as well as the headquarters for the Rector Area Chamber of Commerce...

The Piggott Mohawks posted an important conference win last Tuesday night at PHS, beating the Manila Lions 79-63. Junior Rob Rice scorched the nets for the Tribe with 28 points in the win. The contest marked the second meeting of the year between the two squads, as the Lions had won the earlier meeting by seven points in the Mohawks' season-opener at Manila.
