(Peggy had a slight fall recently, and took the week off. This columnn ran the first week of July in 2004.) It was only after his death the family learned that Uncle Red had been awarded two Bronze Stars for heroic achievement during World War 11. It was a period of his life he didn't talk about. We do know that when he entered the war, his hair was red and bushy, but when he returned home four years later, it was thin and prematurely gray...

1970 Longtime local businessman Arnna L. Patterson, 71, died June 22, 1970 at Piggott Hospital. A two term alderman and community activist, Patterson had moved to the city in 1918 and married the former Stella Taylor in 1921. After working at the Famous Store and Hamilton Hardware he opened Patterson's Grocery in 1946 with son Dallas. ...
