Future looks bright for Kids College program (Local News ~ 07/13/10)
The second Kids College program in Rector was a success with 35 boys and girls taking part in the unique event last week at the recently renovated Northeast Arkansas Innovative Training Center building on Main Street. "I thought everything went real well," said coordinator Jacinda Welch. "I definitely think this sets the stage for the program to continue to grow, as well as bringing in more programs. We're not looking to slow down any time soon. We want to see more programs come to Rector."... -

Those involved in civic organizations in our present-day society clearly understand there is an underlying problem with trying to attract younger participants. As "The Greatest Generation" (Americans of the World War II era) passes away, where are those who will take their place? Of course, to some extent the Baby Boomers have stepped up to the plate, but the trend obviously is away from civic involvement among younger residents of our communities...

My doctor said I needed an MRI. In doctors terms that means magnetic resonance imaging. The exam is touted as one of the most advanced diagnostic methods available. To me it means climbing into a confined space, much like a coffin. "I can't do an MRI without sedation," I told him. "I'm claustrophobic."...

Hannah Scott has been selected as the recipient of the Moses Knight Scholarship awarded by the Rector High School Helping Hands Foundation. The scholarship covers the cost of full four-year tuition to Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge. Scott said she had hoped to attend Williams Baptist later, but expected to start her collegiate studies elsewhere in order to cut costs...
