Track team fares well in first meet
The Piggott Junior Mohawk track team fared well at their first meet of the year last week at the Redskin Junior Relays in Pocahontas.
On the girls squad, the group of Kristen Wallace, Michelle Wallace, Jennifer Wallace and Jenna Stender placed second overall in the 3200 meter relay with a time of 13:42.
Heather Mayberry took fourth place in the 400 meter dash. Jennifer Wallace placed fourth in the 1600 meters with a time of 6:38. Kristen Wallace placed third with 6:20. Stender placed sixth. Stender also placed fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.6. Katie Smart also placed in the event.
For the boys, Lee Whittley won the shotput event with a distance of 45' 8." Carey Rau placed third with 41' 11."
Chad Emerson took sixth place with a time of 5.48 in the 1600 meter event. He also finished fifth overall in the 800 meter run. Billy Southerly, Chris Wegel, Chad Emerson and Brad Graves teamed to place sixth in the 3200 meter relay. Southerly also placed sixth in the 100 meter dash. Graves took fifth place in the 200 meter event.
The team will participate in the district tournament Wednesday at Pocahontas.
