Piggott High graduate drowns at Greers Ferry

A 1999 Piggott High School graduate drowned Saturday, July 20, following a jet ski accident on Greers Ferry Lake.

According to news reports, Adam Brown, 21, of Paragould, formerly of Piggott, was riding a jet ski behind Jeremy Bivens, 19, of Lonoke. A wave toppled both men from their jet skis. While Bivens swam towards his watercraft, he said he noticed Brown swimming toward shore but was later unable to locate him.

Brown was an honor student at PHS and was a member of the Mohawk football team. He was voted Class Favorite of his senior class.

At the time of his death, Brown was a fourth-year criminology student at Arkansas State University, where he was a member of the Agriculture Fraternity. He was employed at Carl's Furniture Galleries and was a member of the Second and Walnut Church of Christ.

Adam Anglin Brown was born Dec. 20, 1980, in Ft. Hood, Texas, the son of James A. and Paula Brown.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Alan Brown of Paragould; paternal grandmother, Dollie Brown of Bruce, Miss.; paternal uncles, Emmett Brown, Larry Brown, Early Brown, Joey Brown and William Brown; maternal uncles, Clint Turner, Danny Turner and Leslie Turner; paternal aunt, Angie Shows; and maternal aunts, Anna Allen and Marsha Byford.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Otis Brown, and his maternal grandparents, J.A. and Ruth Turner.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 25, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Dick Blackford officiating.

Graveside services were held Friday, July 26, at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Bruce, Miss., with Danny Holton officiating.
