Piggott boys open tennis season with win

The Piggott Mohawk boys tennis team won their first meet of the year with a 6-2 win on the road at Paragould.

Picking up wins in the singles division were Chase Atkins, Drew Galyean and Jared Vaughn. Atkins defeated Jessie Isom, 6-1, Galyean blanked Justin Spencer, 6-0, and Vaughn defeated Mitchell Cole, 6-1.

In other singles action, Joe Blascoe was defeated by Alan Brown, 7-6 (7-1) and Zach White lost 6-3 to Josh Madden.

In boys doubles play, Jake Jones and Jeremy Lemmons teamed up to shutout Isom/Spencer, 6-0, and Daniel Cooper/Nick Corrales won big over Cole/Madden, 6-0. James Cox and Jonathan Cox also won for Piggott. The duo defeated Madden/Isom 6-2.

The Piggott Lady Mohawks lost to Paragould, 5-4.

In singles play, Courtney Dunlap won 6-2 over Lauren Ford and Krystal Bedwell defeated Nagisa Hiramoto, 6-3.

Taylor Gregory fell to Swantje Rehse, 7-6 (7-1), Laura Jett lost to Sara Ford, 6-1, and Heather Johnson fell to Jennifer Ellington, 6-5.

In doubles play, Britney Butler/Crystal Chambers defeated Ellington/Tawney Rogers, 6-2, and Ashley Holifield/Heather Mayberry defeated Rogers/Batzoboo Batbold, 6-4.

Dara Binkley/Rebecca Hickson lost 6-1 to Ford/Hiramoto and Karissa Dudley/Ty Hahn fell to Ford/Rehse, 6-1.
