Shirley Byrd

Shirley Byrd, 86, of Pocahontas, formerly of Pollard, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, in Randolph County Medical Center in Pocahontas.

He was born May 18, 1917, in Pollard, to Sam and Mamie Brown.

He was united in marriage to Norene Conley on Feb. 27, 1934. To this union one son was born.

He was of Baptist faith and a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mamie Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Norene of Pocahontas; one son, James Byrd of Imboden; three grandchildren, Patrice Junkersfeld, Cress Byrd and Trent Byrd; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2003, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Charles Carrens officiating. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery in Pollard. Pallbearers were Cress Byrd, Coty Junkersfeld, Johnny Latta, Steve Latta, Todd Latta and Mike Howell. Honorary pallbearers were Truman Brawner, Larry Ort and Billy Cosby. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.
