Bennie R. Burdin

Bennie R. Burdin, 93, of Piggott, formerly of Rector, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

He was born Sept. 21, 1909, in Butler County, Ky., the son of the late John T. and Artilla Aldridge Burdin.

He was united in marriage to Lena Lee Berry on Sept. 9, 1928. She preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 1989.

Mr. Burdin was also preceded in death by on son, James Edward Burdin; three daughters, Deloris and Bessie Jane Burdin and Beatrice Stevenson; three grandchildren, Bobby James, Dallas George Burdin and Bennie Cleveland Schmitt; four brothers, Wes, Garrett, Zennie and Estel Burdin; and two sisters, Lou Dunlap and Janie Burden.

He is survived by four sons, Hughey Burdin of DeSoto, Mo., Alvie Burdin of Piggott, Rollen Burdin of Piggott and Vic Burdin of Festus, Mo.; one daughter, Ruby Schmitt of Piggott; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Burdin of Poplar Bluff; 14 grandchildren; and several great and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, in the McDaniel Funeral Chapel in Kennett with Rev. Futrell Butler officiating. Burial followed in Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector. Pallbearers were Terry Palmer, G.L. Palmer, Mike Masters, Alvie Schicutt, Danny Harmon and Frank Thrasher.

McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett was in charge of the arrangements.
