He was born Aug. 26, 1912, in Greene County to the late Lilburn Barnhart and Lena (Smith) Barnhart.
He was retired from the Greene County Road Department after 31 years of service, was a newspaper deliverer in Marmaduke for the Paragould Daily Press and a Marmaduke city employee. He was a lifelong member of the community and a member of Marmaduke General Baptist Church.
He was married March 11, 1938, to Nellie Mae Frances Golden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lilburn and Lena Barnhart; his wife, Nellie Mae Barnhart; two sons, James Barnhart and Jerry Barnhart; one son-in-law, Ted Mitchell; one great-grandson, Andrew Mitchell; two brothers, Carmen "Cotton Boll" Barnhart and Dolf Barnhart.
He is survived by one son, Danny Barnhart of Marmaduke; one daughter, Frances Mitchell of Marmaduke; one daughter-in-law, Laveda Barnhart; one brother, Donald Barnhart of Arizona; six grandchildren, Scott Mitchell, Tammy Johns, Jerome Mitchell, Lisa Fletcher, Dale Mitchell, all of Paragould, and Jamie Bennett of Marmaduke; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Mary Ann Stokes of Holy Pond, Ala.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday April 6, 2004, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Marmaduke with Bro. Kim Bridges officiating. Burial was in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery in Marmaduke with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangement.
Pallbearers were Scott Mitchell, Jerome Mitchell, Dale Mitchell, Jack Fletcher, Casey Fletcher, Jeremy Mitchell, Josh Mitchell and Zachary Mitchell.
Honorary pallbearers were Gary Franks, Doyne Shaw, Johnny Bozarth, Scott Flannigan and Edward Bennett.
