Earl Smith, 77, of Galena, formerly of Piggott, died in his home on Friday, April 23, 2004.

He was born June 3, 1926, in Waterloo, Ala., the son of Arthur Herbert "Hubbard" Smith and Katie Lou Stricklin Smith.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On Oct. 9, 1954, he was united in marriage to Lavern Moore.

Before retirement he was employed by McCaul Tire and Appliance in Kennett.

He was also a minister. He authored the book, 'Biblical Anthropology, What is Man?'

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Sarah.

He is survived by his wife, of the home; six children, Carol Earlene Dodd and husband, Don, of Hobe Sound, Fla., William Neal Smith and wife, Regenia, of Piggott, Kerry Dale Smith of Galena, Joe Doyle Smith and wife, Sheila, of Galena, Judith Louise Hall and husband, Wally Jr., of Galena and Crystal Gayle Rice and husband, Dewayne, of Reeds Spring; eight grandchildren, Kenneth Dodd, Dawn Dodd, Sara Smith, Colby Hall, Kyndal Rice, Logan Smith, Maegan Hall and Caleb Hall; five brothers and sisters, Griffin Smith, Ruth Payne, Jimmy Nell Massey, Georgia Hix and Nancy Dewey; and an aunt, "Dude" Terry.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, April 26, in Spokane First Baptist Church with Rev. Randall Harwood and Jack Evans speaking.

Burial with military honors followed in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.

Arrangements were under the direction fo Adams Funeral Home of Nixa.
