Piggott man badly injured in wreck

A one car accident last Wednesday left a Piggott man badly injured.

According to a report from S/Cpl. Allen Earnhart of the Arkansas State Troopers, Michael Leonowicz, 52, was injured when his 1999 Ford Explorer lost control, leaving Highway 139 about two miles southeast of Piggott. According to reports, Leonowicz was northbound and attempting to pass another vehicle when he lost control. As he overcorrected, Leonowicz crossed the southbound lane, flipping numerous times before coming to a rest in a ditch on the west side of the highway. The accident occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m.

Leonowicz was treated at the scene by paramedics from Piggott Community Hospital. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau by Air-Evac helicopter. Also arriving at the scene were emergency personnel from the Clay County Sheriff's Department, Piggott Fire Department and Piggott Police Department.

No updates on Leonowicz' condition were available prior to press time.
