Piggott joins "Paint the Town Yellow" effort for Guardsmen

Wednesday, January 2, 2008
Piggott is joining other communities across Northeast Arkansas in an effort to show support for members of the Arkansas Army National Guard who are set to be deployed. Members of the 39th Infantry Combat Brigade (IBCT) and the 1038th Horizontal Construction Company (HCC) are scheduled to ship-out just after the first of the year and they'll be joined by several members of the 875th Engineer Battalion.

Last week yellow ribbons were placed around the Veteran's Memorial in front of the Piggott Courthouse in honor of five guardsmen who are scheduled for deployment. The five, who are all current or former local residents, will be attached to the 39th although they are members of the 875th.

Those honored include Lance Holcomb, Tyler Fraysher, Michael Ely, Larry Sells and Terry Burdin. The five are scheduled to ship-out for Iraq sometime between Jan. 2 and 5, though their destination was unknown.

All local residents and businesses are asked to fly yellow ribbons to show support for these men, and the countless other men and women serving our country overseas.
