Leland D. Fletcher Sr., age 86, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at the Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born December 13, 1921 in Pollard, the son of William and Ada Stairs Fletcher, both deceased. He was married on June 8, 1941 in Rector to Euvila Jane Carpenter who survives at the home.
A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1968, he was a 1950 graduate of the University of Arkansas with a B.S. in civil engineering. Leland also served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was employed with the Missouri Highway Dept. for 38 years prior to his retirement in 1986.
He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Tau Beta Pi fraternity and The American Legion; Roscoe Enloe Post #5. Leland was also a member of the Highway Engineers Association of Missouri, was a past member of the Jefferson City west Rotary Club and belonged to numerous other organizations.
Other survivors include one daughter; Jill Ralph and husband Mark of St. Louis, one son; Leland D. Fletcher of St. Louis, one brother; Detroyd Fletcher and wife Barbara of Spring Lake, Mich, and three grandchildren; Ashley Ralph, Trey Fletcher and Whitney Ralph.
A memorial service was held Monday, Jan 7 at the Hoggard and Son's funeral chapel in Piggott with Jerry Morgan officiating. Interment followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Freeman Mortuary in Jefferson City, while Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott handled the arrangements for the local service.
