Grayson is in Kathy Coyle's homeroom class, and all the essays were submitted in Ethel Mohler's class. A copy of the winning essay can be found elsewhere in this week's copy of The Times.
As the first-place winner, Grayson was awarded a $50 prize, which she split equally with her classroom. Grayson, and the other winners, were also given the opportunity to go to lunch with Piggott mayor Gerald Morris at the Piggott Diner.
This year's second place winner was Jazzmyne Mills, granddaughter of Kenneth and Debbie Mills, who split a $30 prize with her classroom. Jazzmyne is a member of Kim Mize's homeroom class.
Third place this year went to Brooke Pattillo, daughter of Chris Peale and Amy Stephens. Brooke split a $20 prize with her classroom, and is a member of Tammy Cashion's homeroom class.
The judges also awarded an honorable mention this year to Bret Fuller, son of Curtis and Kim Fuller. Bret is also a member of Kim Mize's homeroom class.
The chamber holds the annual essay contest in hopes that it will create community awareness, and encourage writing skills as well.
